MI. Rep. Kahle Opposes Nursing Home Coronavirus Policy

by Josh Colletta

Michigan State Representative Bronna Kahle is making no bones about her opposition to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s policy of placing coronavirus patients in nursing homes.

The Lenawee County Republican has co-sponsored House Resolution 276, which would formally condemn the practice, which Kahle claims has put thousands of seniors in danger.

According to WLEN, a press release from Kahle’s office called the policy “irresponsible,” saying that other states that had implemented the strategy quickly realized their mistake and reversed the decision, but Michigan has continued it.

The release says Whitmer’s policy requires nursing homes that do not have isolated spaces for coronavirus patients to send them to regional hubs at nursing homes that have been approved by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The release also says that Whitmer has acknowledged that the policy is flawed.

Kahle says she wants more information about the policy, and will continue to fight to end it.
