Deputies & Civilian Injured as Cruiser Hits Minivan

RECAP 8/30/2019:

UPDATE 3:20 PM 8/29/2019: The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office has shared a Facebook fundraising page for Krista Hackworth, naming her as the driver of the minivan. According to the fundraiser page, there are several breaks in her pelvis and she suffered damage to a kidney.

Additionally, a fundraiser has been set up for Deputy Ludeker on GoFundMe.

UPDATE 12:35 PM 8/29/2019: The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the deputies involved in the crash. They are Deputy Daun Rubin and Deputy Wes Ludeker.

Deputy Rubin was transported to Hillsdale Hospital where she was treated and later released.

Deputy Ludeker was airlifted to Parkview Regional in Fort Wayne, where he has undergone surgery for his injuries.

The Michigan State Police continue to investigate the crash.

Eyewitnesses say the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s vehicle ran the stop sign at Hillsdale and Bear Lake Roads, and was not using its lights or siren at the time.
