Today the Senate Republicans joined Democrats in blocking Presidents Trump’s emergency border wall declaration. With a vote 59 to 41, and with 12 Republicans voting against the executive action.

G-O-P Senator Rob Portman called Trump’s Declaration a “Dangerous New Precedent” but stressed that even in voting no he believes there is a crisis at the border. Senetor Portman is just one of a group of conservatives that criticized Trump for executive overreach in issuing the emergency, they worry that such a call now opens the door for Democratic Presidents to declare emergencies for any policy they want.

Even with Republican support, lawmakers didn’t get enough votes to override a certain veto President Trump can issue.
